AniNation – International Animation Festival in Jerusalem will also present a special selection of animated short films by two outstanding graduates of FAMU (Film and TV School of the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague) – Daria Kashcheeva and Philippe Kastner. Both filmmakers belong among the most distinctive voices of the young generation of European animation, bringing original visual language and powerful storytelling to the screen.
Daria Kashcheeva: Daughter
In a hospital room, the Daughter recalls a childhood moment when as a little girl she tried to share her experience with an injured bird with her Father. A moment of misunderstanding and a lost embrace has stretched into many years all the way to this hospital room, until the moment when a window pane breaks under the impact of a little bird.
Daria Kashcheeva: Elektra
Electra rethinks her 10th birthday, mixing memories with imagination and hidden dreams. Isolated in her fantasy world full of made-up busty dolls, plastic men’s body parts, juicy strawberries and dentist tools, she builds up her own relationships with her body and sexuality. Diving deeper and deeper into her childhood memories, she experiences again rebellion against her mother and mixed feelings for her father. Electra has to go through the most painful memories to let her suppressed feelings come out. In the end, she is ready to reveal what has really happened during her 10th birthday.
Philippe Kastner: Wolfie
A perfectionist illustrator has to face her own mistakes when she accidentally creates an ink blot that gives life to Wolfie, a small wolf with an inky nose.
Philippe Kastner: Dede is Dead
Death of a beloved pet is a difficult thing to deal with, and even though we try to prepare for it, it always seems to come too soon. This is the story of a boy and his dog Dede, who passes away suddenly and the boy is left alone with his grief. In the end, he finds out that just because Dede is dead doesn’t mean that she is completely gone.
