Organ recital: Ondrěj Horňas

Czech organist Ondřej Horňas will perform a concert at the Church of the Redeemer in Jerusalem. His program will feature works by renowned Czech composers, offering audiences a unique musical experience in one of the city’s most remarkable historic churches. The concert will highlight the richness and distinctive character of the Czech organ tradition.

He began his organ studies under Pavel Rajnoha at the Conservatory in Olomouc. In 2014, he continued his education at the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno, where he studied with Petr Černý. During the 2015/2016 academic year, he took part in the Erasmus program at the Institut supérieur des Arts de Toulouse in France, studying with Michel Bouvard and Jan Willem Jansen. He completed his studies at the Academy of Performing Arts in Prague, where he obtained his Master’s degree.

Already during his conservatory studies, he represented his school at national conservatory showcases. He also participated in numerous masterclasses led by distinguished organists, including Olivier Latry, Wolfgang Zerer, Jean-Pierre Leguay Mallié, Jaroslav Tůma, Theo Ospital, Edoardo Bellotti Wiersinga, and Martin Schmeding.

He further attended the Organ Academy in Sarlat under the guidance of Michael and Yasuko Bouvard. He has also participated in several international organ competitions, including the 2nd Jan Kucharski International Organ Competition in Łódź, Poland (2011), the International Organ Competition Premio Elvira Di Renna in Salerno, Italy (2016), and the Boëllmann-Gigout Competition in Strasbourg, France (2016).

He performs regularly both in the Czech Republic and internationally, with concert appearances in the United States, Germany, Austria, France, and Slovakia. In addition to his solo career, he frequently collaborates with vocal soloists and choirs. A significant part of his artistic work is devoted to organ transcriptions of major orchestral works, including Dvořák’s Symphony No. 9 “From the New World,” Vivaldi’s Four Seasons, and Beethoven’s Symphony No. 5.
