Pavel Zlámal & PQ will perform three concerts during their tour of Israel. First, on September 9th, they will play in Jazz Kissa Bar in Tel Aviv. They will then perform on September 10th at Mazkeka in Jerusalem and conclude their stay the next day with a performance at Jazz Alley Club in Tel Aviv at an event dedicated to the victims affected by the terrorist attack on October 7th.
The formation of progressive jazz musicians, now scattered across various corners of the Czech Republic and Europe (Brno, Prague, Helsinki, Basel), originally emerged from the dynamic environment of the Janáček Academy of Music and Performing Arts in Brno.
Their distinctive original repertoire, straightforward and energetic interpretation, and intense musical expression are reminiscent of influences from The Bad Plus or John Zorn. In 2018, they released their debut album titled Tyče nevyhnutelné (Championship Music), which earned them 3rd place in the Czech Radio Jazz poll for Czech Jazz Harvest 2018.
The debut album features compositions by the band's leader, Pavel Zlámal, positioning the recording more within contemporary modern jazz. Some inevitable divergences from this framework generally point to Zlámal’s untamed approach to creation, which essentially represents his life creed. The band released their second album (a double album) Anchors & Hearts at the end of 2020 under the label Ma Records.Pavel Zlámal – tenor saxophone / leader
