Daniel Paul at Jerusalem Design Week

In the early evening of Thursday 22 June, Jerusalem Design, which carries the theme of lies and falsehood, was officially opened. Hundreds of artists, designers, collectors, influencers and all other lovers of art and design gathered in the garden of the cultural center Hansen house for the long awaited opening. In the shade of the olive trees, impressions of the exhibition were exchanged, old acquaintances were greeted and new collaborations were concluded, all in a festively casual atmosphere accompanied by digital music

As a part of the exhibition the sculptor Daniel Paul and his statue His Holiness, from the Turbofolk collection, was chosen by the curators of Jerusalem Design Week. For this occasion, he created a scaled-down sculpture of "His Holiness in Jerusalem". The Statue depicts a generic representative of a certain trend, speaks through human physicality, and objectifies man as a flawless product. How does the sculpture fit into this year's theme of lies and untruths? It is a portrait of self-deception and hypocrisy deepened by a consumerist way of life. However, it raises many other questions. Despite the reduced format, the sculpture had a monumental effect and occupied the center of one of the exhibition halls dedicated to physicality. It immediately drew attention to itself. Especially for a few moments when the author took away the censorship element as a fig leaf. Some visitors filmed this moment as a performance, while others saw other meanings in the leaf or just appreciated the statue in its intended form. Daniel Paul and his art manager Lucia Heverová noted the high level of the festival and appreciated the welcoming relaxed atmosphere.
