1506

Height 162 cm x width 192 cm

The painting Feast of the Rose Garlands was created by the German Renaissance master Albrecht Dürer for the Church of St. Bartholomew in Venice. The large-sized work immediately became a sensation; in 1606 it was purchased by Emperor Rudolph II and became part of his renowned collections in Prague.  In the middle of the symmetrical composition is the enthroned Virgin Mary and the Infant Jesus, surrounded by the representatives of ecclesiastic and secular power. The painting, distinguished by its bold colours, also features a self-portrait of its author, Albrecht Dürer himself.
