Director Vojtěch Mašek has turned the story of the mysterious Jiří Arvéd Smíchovský, a black magic practitioner, collaborator of the Nazis and the Communists, into a breathless psychological drama. One of the most controversial figures in Czech history was created by Michal Kern, who won the Czech Lion Award for his performance. From beginning to end, the movie Arvéd is laced with darkness, thrills and numerous mysteries. The film is based on Jan Poláček's book "Malostranský ďábel", which tells the story of Smíchovský. The author of the book also contributed to the screenplay.
