The famous Czech comedy directed by Vít Olmer takes us back to the fifties of the last century. The movie humorously portrays the stories of young men in military service. It faithfully shows how young soldiers face stupidity and bullying from the officer corps, thinking especially of girls and returning to civilian life. The popular movie is an adaption of the book of the same name by Josef Škvorecký. The film's main character, Danny Smiřický, is a partial literary alter ego of the writer. The main character was played by the legendary Lukáš Vaculík and also thanks to his exceptional performance the film achieved huge popularity.

Synopsis

Doctor of Philosophy Danny Smiřický is doing his compulsory military service in a tank battalion. He goes through several military exercises with the others, but throughout his service he mainly fights the stupidity of his commanders. In his free time, Danny reminisces about his girlfriend Lizette, but at the same time he experiences another love story with the wife of one of the officers.
